i'm looking for help on the kind of lines out there now. MONO, FLUORCARBEN, ETC. what kind do you use, what is it called? On what kind of reel, spin or level? For casting what, lure, worm(fake), top water? Thanks1 if this is a repeated thread, sorry.

Depends upon what I'm after.

For stripers use braided line with a 20 lb Triline. This is usually used when I am Tube an Worm fishing.

Casting 20lb Triline for Stripers.

Trout 4-10lb Vanish Florocarbon.

Bass, Pike, Smallies Triline 10lbs

Carp 10-20lb Triline.

Are some of what I use, the line is pretty decent. But I've lost fish due to knot failure or weak line. It happens thats why its called fishing. Thumbsup

i won't let my lack of insight on the lines cost me or someone else using my equipment again. say you have a baitcaster for sm or lm or pics, is one kind of line better on the different reels for using senkos on the bottom with a spinning to using a buzzbait on top or a popper with level wind or baitcaster? this pertains to frehwater. thanks fish. what could i have used instead of the 4 mono? someone questioned that on my post with you, forgot who it was but i liked the question which leads to this .

Mono has the most stretch of all the lines out there. The farther the strike is from the pole, the more you have to yank the pole to set the hook. Mono is better for crank baits because the fish is attacking a moving bait and helps to set the hook himself. Flourocarbon lines have less stretch and sink more than mono, along with being nearly invisible under water, so they're not a bad choice for fishing plastics. P Line is a good hybrid between mono and a full flourocarbon. For some of the best line size to strength ratio, Berkley Fireline is pretty good. 8# test with the equivalent diameter of 2# mono, and no stretch.

So:(these are what work for me)

Spinnerbaits---14-20 lb test mono or flourocarbon (because of wood, weeds, and other structure)

Plastic worms---12-17 lb test mono(if you make short casts)or fl.carbon

Crank Baits-----8-10 lb mono(6 lb for light baits like rapalas)

Jigs(swimming or open water) 10 lb anything

Jig-n-pig (fishing in the heavy structure) 14-20 lb fl.carbon or Fireline

Pan fishing----4 lb mono

Saturday nights----$100.00 bills

For tube jigs and senkos I use 6lb trilene
For top water and some cranks 8lb trilene
Bait caster is set up with 14 lb trilene
For the lead core or wire line set ups I run 8, 10 or 12 lb trilene.
For surf casting was using 17 lb mono and 30 lb powerpro.
Did use power pro for the first time surf casting and can see its advantages (long casting dist.) But it has lots of disadvantages knots up easy, and you can't pick the knots out - like you can with mono. Also it can cut theSwear1Swear1 crap out of your skin. When I landed a blue fish from the surf for someone I came back with a nice cut on my finger. I did not know he was using power pro and just grabbed the line and it sliced right through the skin.

Did the power pro seat itself in the spool? Just wondering I usually put a little bit of backing 10 lb. I had some issues with power pro but it cuts through the water, and hands if your not carefull. I get knicked all the time during the striper run.

Saltwater----------50 lb Power Pro with 3 foot seaguall flourocarbon invisible leader #50 test.

Saltwater baitrunner set up---17 pound test...

fresh 4 lb on my noodle rod

6-12 on my spinning reels

Still can't figure how to cast a freakin baitcaster!!!!

Yote, evry so ofetn you have to let out your Power Pro line and apply pressure when you reel it in making the line tight on the spool. If the Power pro gets soft on the spool and then get a fish or a snag and the line digs into the spool you will have problems..Also try 50lb, the 30 from what I hear gives people problems for heavier surf casters!!

Every braided will cut in on itself while on the reel if you put enough pressure on it. Not too big of a deal in freshwater because the fish don't pull really hard, unless you are using super light braided. It can be a big problem on saltwater setups, but that's one of the downfalls of using super fine braided lines and being able to put so much pressure on them.

Practice Practice Practice.....crank it down for the backlash...When I first started I set mine so the weight of the lure would barely peel off line when free spooled. That will reduce your backlashes.
