Fished this morning on the river - trying new spots - got skunked.

Hit the woods this afternoon - and hit the mother load of the hen of the woods. The thing was easily 25-30 lbs before I cut it. I cut off 1/8th of the mushroom before the photo was taken. What a find!!

This is only my second year and this mushroom was taken from the same tree that I was shown last year. Thanks Reload!! Bow1

A few photos of this massive piece of fungi! Two longtime mushroomers who saw this (before I cut it) said it was the biggest hen of the woods they had ever seen.

How do you clean & cook them. If the are washed, do they have to be cooked/pickled soon after to avoid spoiling? Notsure

We par boiled them for about 2 min. then we froze them ended up with 12 lbs. for the freezer. We cooked some up fresh in butter salt and pepper and had them with fried chicken.
