I haven't fished it in a few years. It used to be really productive, but then the fishing declined quite a bit about 5-10 years ago when a few big storms washed out some of the better holes.
Are they still stocking Tiger trout on the Sawmill? I remember catching a good one just below the Book Mill about 10 years ago.

Welcome to the site, hope to see some of your reports in the near future. Glad to see that your getting back into the sport. What storm are you talking about? Just curious.

Thanks to all who've welcomed me to the site.
In response to Fisher16's comments, (1) it's not that I'm "getting back into the sport" (since I've been fishing continuously for 30+ years), I just have not had occasion to fish the Sawmill in a long time and (2) I live in northern Berkshire County, and do most of my fishing on the Hoosic (hence my "penname"), so most of my reports will be about that stream.

What storm are you talking about? Just curious. There were a line of thunder storms that went through Leverett, Shutesbury, Montague. This was 3-5 years ago. There was water comming down off the mountains like I have never seen. Major flash flooding. There was even water coming across Rte 63 in several places like there was a river. The sawmill was absolutely incredible. There are still debris piles along the river from those floods.

I didn't know about those storms. But I can imagine the damage that they had caused.

Sad1 I haven't fished the SAWMILL IN 30 YEARS used to go up there and catch native brookies by the dozen ( it was legal then ) and have the best shore lunch you ever ate. They were mostly 6 or 7 inchers with a BIG fish going 9 or 10, man those were the good old days..ThumbsupThumbsup

Cry1 Glad the fish are still there, my days of climbing around and over rocks and boulders are gone south, lucky I manage a few days in the boat.. A bad back and screwed up knees kinda makes you find different ways to hunt and fish ,you know improvise and survive like uncle sam tought us old storm troopers. Thumbsup Thumbsup
