First I hear about this! And guess where I heard about it? On Crappie.com - not on any other fishing or shooting forum. Unbelievable! Anyway, here's what it's about:

HR 45 Blair Holt Firearm Licensing & Record of Sales Act of 2009
Please send this to everybody on your list... this is Obama gun control by secrecy.

Very Important for you to be aware of a new bill HR 45 introduced into the House.
This is the Blair Holt Firearm Licensing & Record of Sale Act of 2009.
We just learned yesterday about this on the Peter Boyles radio program.
Even gun shop owners didn't know about this because it is flying under the radar.
To find out about this - go to any government website and type in HR 45 or Google HR 45 Blair Holt Firearm Licensing & Record of Sales Act of 2009. You will get all the information.

Basically this would make it illegal to own a firearm - any rifle with a clip or ANY pistol unless:
...It is registered
...You are fingerprinted
...You supply a current Driver's License
...You supply your Social Security #
...You will submit to a physical & mental evaluation at any ti me of their choosing
...Each update - change or ownership through private or public sale must be reported and costs $25
- Failure to do so you automatically lose the right to own a firearm and are subject up to a year in jail.

....There is a child provision clause on page 16 section 305 stating a child-access provision. Gun must be locked and inaccessible to any child under 18.
The Government would have the right to come and inspect that you are storing your gun safely away from accessibility to children and fine is punishable for up to 5 yrs. in prison.

If you think this is a joke - go to the website and take your pick of many options to read this..
Text of H.R.45 as Introduced in House: Blair... OpenCongress (http://www.opencongress.org/bill/111-h45/text)

It is long and lengthy. But, more and more people are becoming aware of this. Pass the word along.
FAILURE TO DO SO AT YOUR PERIL!

why is it that this is such a big deal? it seems to me that having guns registered only helps protect people against gun related crimes. i'd imagine your concern is with the physical and mental evaluation part? i didnt look up the bill.. just read your post. Also, im not anti-gun at all. just curious why having registered guns is a bad thing

I kind of agree with Cluster. These seem like rules that are already in effect, or do absolutely nothing to keep you from legaly buying a gun. There are only two things that I don't agree with or believe they have the right to do. #1 "submit to a physical & mental evaluation at any time of their choosing" and #2 "The Government would have the right to come and inspect that you are storing your gun safely".
Those two items seem a little far fetched. As far as having the proper ID and proper paperwork for sales, I don't see the issue. Locking your gun up if a child is in the house only seems like the responsible thing to do.
It's when kids shoot themselves with thier fathers gun when your right to own a gun is really put under fire. Be a responsible and safe gun owner and you will only improve the image of the "gun owner".

Obama won't stop.....he wants the government to control every aspect of our lives.

Submit ot a mental and physical exam at any time of their chosing! Yea...that's not control...right.

Must supply a driver's license...what if you don't drive?

The libs are in control....and they want even more control. This is not the America I grew up in.

Smoke1 Check this out on Snopes.........some of the info being circulated is bogus and it won't pass anyway. Even the dems won't vote for it 'cause they know what the reaction would be.

BTW, registered guns means that when some lib politician gets enough votes to ban guns, they know where all the legal ones are..........

MASS DANGLER & SUPERCLUSTER,
At first glance, it would be easy to agree with you. However, with all due respect, I am pretty sure that because of this thing called the 2nd amendment, which means nothing to OBAMAHOLE and his friends, there is only one test/proof/paperwork/registration process/physical evaluation/mental evaluation/requirement necessary to own a gun and that was being an American Citizen.

Many people and organizations are trying everything they can to find ways around that. One of these times, it will pass.

You say these things are no big deal, but do you remember...

- When you didn't need an FID card?
- Remember when they used to be free for life?
- Remember when they used to cost $25?
- Do you know they now cost $100 and are only good for 4 years now?
- Did you now know that your home-town chief of police has complete power to decide if you should get one - regardless of whether or not you have a criminal record
- As I posted last night, did you know that it's now impossible to buy a hand gun, legally, in MA that hasn't passed the state safety check? Making it nearly impossible to buy one here.
- And, keeping guns away from children is about being a responsible adult, not about there being a law that says you better be responsible or else we're take your guns away and fining you. And, that new law says anyone under 18?? What about 90% of the states that allow hunting, with guns, at ages 9, 10 and older?

It's hard to disagree with your statement(s): "what's so bad about needing to register a gun" - but there's more to it than that. It literally borders on invasion of privacy and borders on throwing out the 2nd amendment and would be yet another link to a chain that DOES have an end which is GUNS ARE ILLEGAL - WE THE GOVERNMENT SAY SO.

As a reminder, the 2nd amendment simple states THE RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS.

It does not state, THE RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS as long as you meet these 50 requirements that YOU THE PEOPLE had no say in coming up with AND you pay these fees that YOU THE PEOPLE will get nothing in return for. Oh, and you criminals out there, go ahead, keep on getting guns the same way you always have been, ignore these silly laws and rules.

I do understand, on the surface, what you guys are saying with regards to this not seeming like anything new, or really not a big deal. But it's the trend and the "give an inch, take a yard" theory that scares us the most about these kind of potential laws passing.

Thank you (all) for hearing me out.
- SG Thanks1

I agree with Smallie Guy on everything he said nowhere in the second amendment does it require you to have a permit to own a firearm. You have the head of homeland security calling vets terrorists. its another way of government taking away our rights a little at a time.As to it will never pass they just passed the biggest tax bill ever and with all the bleeding heart liberals in this country its all in their plans to kill the bill of rights.

Smallie Guy, very good post. I'm not arguing those points at all. I was simply talking about the information in the original post. I also agree that the 2nd amendment should speak for itself.
