I'm heading to Maine this weekend for a 2 week family vacation. Haven't had 2 weeks in a row for a LONG time, so I'm really looking forward to this. We're tenting in Baxter State Park for the first 4 nights, 5 days, and are planning on hiking Katahdin. Looks like a good number of streams and ponds where I can fish, and I'll try to take some pictures. After that, we're heading to Acadia Nation Park near Bar Harbor. We'll be renting a cabin on Long Pond, and it comes with it's own canoe. The pond has smallies and Salmon. Any advice on catching salmon from a canoe? I don't have a downrig setup, so one lure I'm planning on using is a Mooseluck Wobbler. A friend tells me the Salmon should be at 15-25' this time of year. Any other suggestions?

If you can get a lead core rig - that would be best. 18lb lead core line, spooled on a level wind reel like a Penn and a light to medium boat rod about 5' long. On a boat I'd use a longer rod, but on a canoe the shorter rod is easier to handle esp. when playing a fish. (You could try a fly rod with a sinking line, but it probably won't get deep enough)

Try 3-4 colors and use 50 feet or so of mono (clear, green or a high tech line) for a leader - nothing blue, yellow or fluorescent.

If the local shops don't recommend a color they are hitting on use Mooselooks or Flash Kings in orange/copper or just copper to start with if you only want to take a few - many Wal Marts and almost any bait shop stock these and they are killers.

Get a depth map of the lake!!!!!!!! - troll the drop offs to deep water near structure.

I was up that way last weekend. Word I got was 4 colors down. The temperature is dropping rapidly though so the fish should be heading up. I was one nice near 20" taken in about 10 feet of water at the mouth of the river.
