If you camp in N.H. you are going to pay a 9% tax to the state for your site. "For what", you ask? Good question! They figure that if they can tax you to stay in a hotel/motel, that they can suck a little extra $$$$ out of you for that 50'x50' patch of dirt. Camping is now a "LUXURY!" I can understand if the campground owners need to charge more to cover their expenses, but where does the state get the idea that they should get a piece of the action? Last time I check, I don't believe that do anything to deserve that fee. Land owner already pays a tax, if I'm correct. Am I right? I hope that OUR governor [or legislators aren't reading the news]. I not sure when it goes into effect. Swear1

Going up here in Mass also be prepared
I believe it is still in the works and awaiting signature by the NH governor. Have been following this on the Lake Winniepiesaukee Forum that I frequent to get information on the area and what is happening in my chosen place for retirement. The justification for it seems to be that the tax applies to hotels, motels and B&B's that folks rent on a daily or weekly basis so the same tax should apply to folks renting a spot to pitch a tent.
I disagree but have no say in the matter. It is strictly another way for a government to raise revenue to throw down the turlet.
This is what happens when folks turn a blind eye on taxes for a group of folks but the tax doesn't affect them. Eventually the gov gets around to find a way to tax something that they enjoy. A tax on any special segment of society is a tax on the society in general. Any tax is an attack and infringement on one's liberty.

Massachusetts is next to take the bucket plunge. The two most liberal drugged out states in the nation. This is what happens when you don't hold officials responsible for thier actions.

I know that Hinsdale NH has been collecting taxes from the campground there for a couple of years now for the seasonal sites, which caused many folks to pull thier trailers out and go elsewhere. Where will they all go when it's state wide law ? Some of these campgrounds have city water and sewer and that makes the town think they should be collecting more taxes for the services.
