We have had 20 new members in just a few days from this change. It makes the lurkers sign in.
It's just my opinion but I think that could be a mistaken strategy. The word is getting out about this site as it is and that is why it is growing. I don't know of any other forums site that is like that. All that I visit or sign into you can get to the forum without signing in just to look around.
For anyone thinking about joining they can see what is going on, and make a decision to join or not. If they can't see what is going on why should they join.
I may be mistaken, but you say 20 new members since that policy went into effect. Can't prove it by me. It just went into effect today and the membership numbers haven't changed by 20.
Kinda snooty on maanglers part if you ask me.
Just my 2 cents.

I believe a number of members were upset that they were putting out some decent reports, and didn't have a problem with other member's viewing them but had a issue with guest's viewing them.
Alot of the Guest you see are Robots that hit sites all day long. I don't really know to much about it but I'm learning something new everyday. I have a new program that I can look up IP address and most of the IP address are Coperations ect or Spammers who just post Swear1. Take for instance this morning I came across a person/spammer who posted adult websites on our site. He/She/It is no longer a member but I'm sure they have multiple email accounts and will be back. I would like to see the email confirmation come back that way this kinda stuff will end.
But the word is out like you said, and this site is well put together thanks to all the hard work of Jay. I worked a detail OT shift today and met another guy who is a big fisherman/hunter and spread the word to him. We just began talking about hunting for bears because he was upset to be at work during the first day of the season. After we talked about fishing the river for stripers in the spring. I then mentioned the site to him and he said he would check it out and probably join up. So its really up to our member base to pass the word and get decent members to join the site to make it successfull. From the looks of all the people on board it appears they have either known each other for sometime or met just recently Thanks to this site.
I've been a long time member of boards like CTF, Ctriverstripers, ect, ect you will see in the spring time when the opening day for CT anglers starts CTF shuts down there board to all guest's and it's members only. I think its a good idea because where else can someone go to get some free information concerning fishing reports. It also boost the numbers of members as well because all the guest have to join to read or look at reports. If you get half of the people who were guest to begin posting information/reports then to me it was a good choice.
Back to fishing while speaking with a new possible member today he informed me of a big catfish that was caught during one of the tournies on the river. He told me it weighed around 16 pounds does anyone have a pic of that monster. Someone has to have one I would just love to see it.
This has been like this for about almost a week now so people have to sign in to view the site. I dont really like doing this but we have had a rise of lurkers. Now they will join and hopefully contribute. People know that this is a fishing site and they will either choose to join or not but hopefully they will not put the majority of that basis on whether you have to sign in or not to view the board. Im going to keep it this way for a little bit until I can get some better stats and analyze it. If this doesnt work it I can change it, it only takes 2 seconds.
