Hey everyone, I just signed up here. Ive got a question for all of you. I'm a big bass fisherman and thats all I really go out trying to catch. Recently Ive done some river fishing for trout. My question is what are some of the best lures, or bait, or techniques for trout? I'm not a flyfisherman.
Thanks
Joe

Power bait for stocked trout, or some salmon eggs on a small treble hook. Mepps spinners, of course some worms.

Welcome to the site...looking forward to some of those bass fishing reports!!!

As far as trout fishing is concerned I have stood by the same lure year after year! A Thomas Boyant Gold...or a Silver which my buddy Sean (fisher16) likes to use!

Here is what a thomas boyant gold caught me and my friend this year!

Welcome to the site, and Tacoma is right on about the trout killer. I never leave home without them.

Here's my personal Best a couple of years ago from the Westfield river on a silver and red/black dotted Thomas Bouyant. Although alot younger I have yet to catch one bigger from there. The guys at B&G couldn't believe that this fish came from the Westfield but I had a witness my brother.

I use to do a lot of trout fishing years ago. Can't walk the streams anymore like I use to, but I can tell you that I know what takes trout in streams. If you can still find them, a plain, tiny 4/0 Colorado spinner on 2 lb. test mono with a small 5' ultra-light rig. Dynomite! I've used the Boyant's too. They worked well for me, but require a bit heavier rig to keep it off the bottom. The Colorado's "float" along the current beautifully.

just keep in mind that if you are C&R, these treble hooks/meps spinners destroy the soft mouths of trout. If you are catching trout for table fair thats another story, and if so, I might recommend a can of Jolly Green Giant sweet corn. Throw out a handful to bring them in and put a colonel on the smallest hook you have with a short shank, a piece of split shot, and bam...there's dinner

No one seems to use them anymore, but french fries on a baitholder hook with a piece of shot about 1 1/2 feet up can sometimes be killer if trout don't bite anything. Or mealworm and corn combos! One of world record trout was caught on a french fry!! For lures I love the thomas buoyants too, they beat daredevils and mepps!! Use ultralight to light/medium rods and reels for good fights and healthy hook-ups! Happy Trouting!

A couple other lures that I like, are the phobe both gold and silver, rooster tail and don't forget the mealworm.
