My truck caught the fire the other day and I lost all my gear including my wallet, cell phone, all my tools etc. But perhaps my biggest loss was my two favorite rods and my two coveted Mitchell 300's and my tackle box fully loaded ! One of the Mitchell's was given to me by my father over twenty years ago, the other I tag saled for ten bucks.
I love these tried and true reels and I was hoping that some one out here might have an old Mitchell kicking around that they would be willing to part with. I am in the Western Mass area (Greenfield) and could pick it up.
Thanks,
John D

Sorry to hear about your Mitchells...and the rest of your stuff too, of course. If I had more than just my one trusty Mitchell, it'd be yours. I guess a Mitchell is like a wife - you can only give away the extra ones! Good luck replacing them.

John, that sux royally! Don't have a Mitchell but I do have an old berkley 420 that's been kicking around in a drawer forever. Pretty solid old reel, just don't use it. PM me and it's yours.

Capt....sorry to hear about your loss. I remember saving up my paper route earnings for 2 months to buy my 1st Mitchell 300 back in the 50's. I feel your pain. I still have three 300's but I not going to part with mine.
I go tag saleing with the wife most every weekend. Last weekend in Agawam, High Street area there was a tag sale on there were at least a half dozen Mitchell 300's there. The guy wanted 20 buck apiece. Too high for me because I already had 3.
I think I remember the house and would be willing to go knock on his door to see if they still have the reels. How much would you be willing to pay for a 300? I might be able to get them for less if they are still hanging around.
Anyway I do see the 300's at tag sales on occasion. I will keep my eye out for you. Just let me know how much your willing to pay for one and if I can I'll get them. I am real familiar with the 300's and wouldn't buy one that was a piece of sheite.
Let me know if you want me to look for you.

I can't seem to do multiple quotes in one post so I'll have to reply seperatly

Funny that ! I've eyed some of them sexy young reels out there with thier fresh nubile magnetic bail springs and their sevet titainium bodys but, a smooth running 300 is a good old lady and like a good lady they are inexpsensive and low maintanence. To me they are real "keepers".
Thanks for the condolences.

Thanx for the condolences and the offer. That is very kind.
I am a lifetime 300 fan and my best bud also runs them so we have gotten to know them and have spare parts etc so I would like to stick with them.
Thanks again for the offer.

I would say that $20 is to high as well. I've seen several at tag sales etc. for around ten but I had two and couldn't justify buying more. If you think you could get one or even two in the $10 range I'd take them. I would also be interested in a parts reel if it had a spool. On my heavier rod I like to keep a spool with ~8 pound test on it for bass and some rope for cat/pike fishing.
Thanks for your reply and also to every one who has reponded so far.

John

Sorry to hear about your loss. If you need a couple of rods I have a couple that I could spare you for the time being until you get settled with your insurance company. Hope that everything goes smoothly.

Try EBAY. I just checked it out and there is a mess of "300" reels for sale.Thumbsup

Capt. Shay I have an old 300 on a 5 1/2 foot stiff action rod I used to use for pulling bass out of the stumps at Thousand acre swamp. The outfit isn't top of the line but the reel works fine. It's yours if you want it, my wife can't believe I'm willing to give up any of my fishing equipment but anyone who went through what you did deserves a break. PM me and we'll work out the details.

Norseman, thank you very much ! As long as you don't think you'll be needing it I would love to get my hands on it and would be more than happy to compensate you for it. PM to follow.
Thanks for the offer F16, I currently have a loaner from my buddy.
Buffermop, checked Ebay as well. The problem is you pay like eight dollars shipping on a ten dollar item. Kind of defeats the perpouse.
Thanks again to all,
John D.

I hadn't looked down here in a few days so I didn't see your post. Thanks for the support but this is a post from last summer and I have a new truck and have built back up most of my gear and tools. That is unless Gary happens to have a spare Allison kicking around Grinning1 But thanks again for the thoughts.
Oh, by the way, I'm always looking for Mitchell 300 in any condition as a bunch of my buds use them and we canabalize for parts.
