Whats only fustrating more then the evil empire pulling the rug out from the Redsox once again.

ESPN reported that the Yanks and Teixeira reach an agreement for 8 years.

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3790141

In doing this, not only do the Sox lose out but what happens if they sign Manny too.

All I can say is that the Sox will probably go deep on pitching. Maybe a trade for Jake Peavy, sign Derek Lowe, or Brad Penny. For hitting there are other players out there so let just sit back and watch.

Yanks will not sign manny now, they have no need for him now with tex. the big loser is manny, who left the sox with big promises of $$$$ from boras. The market has proven they don't way to lay for an ustable liability in the clubhouse. Yes the guy can hit, but the downside is greater than any upside he has. Manny is gonna settle with a 2 year deal for less or = to the money that he would have made if he had stayed with the sox.
Tex would have been a luxury, but was not a need. Sign Lowe, get a young catcher, and see how the season pans out. with the economy in the dumper and teams losing money, there will be some big names come up at the deadline, and the Yanks just spent 300 mill on 3 players. the sox will be in a much better finacial situation come the deadline to aqquire some top name talent.

Looks like we are back to being the underdog again...I like it!

Nice job Henry.....they let the yankme's outbid them by 1.5mil a year....
that was gutless, the sox are now the 3rd best team in the east.

Teixeira's deal raises the Yankees' offseason spending spree to $423.5 million. Just last Thursday, the Yankees completed agreements with two pitchers, giving CC Sabathia a $161 million, seven-year contract and A.J. Burnett an $82.5 million, five-year deal. This kind of crap is ruining baseball in my opinion. Yeah I know baseball sets new attendance records every year, but things will reach a point where fans in a lot of cities will say the heck with it and stop showing up.

Yanks will probably go after Manny too. If they get him, I'll LMAO if they don't make the playoffs after spending all that money. I'm a good baseball man, but I'm sick of all this big money going around, especially with the way the economy is.

I'm pretty sure the Yanks will get Manny too. Regardless they had a hole to fill at first base. As far as Teixeria goes, he was all about the money and this is where baseball goes sour. He had plenty of good offers so why jack it up more or for 1 more season? I guess these guys forget about the game.

Let the yankees sign Manny too, then when we beat them we can laugh at all the money they spent. Look for the sox to announce a long term contract for Youk in the next couple of days to get some of the negative media coverage off them.Would we have been a better team with Mark Tex, yes we would have. Hopefully Lowell bounces back from that injury and has a good year, if he does you wont even remember this big offseason ordeal, remeber the A-rod offseason ordeal, just a distant memory right. If are injured players bounce back we should put up a good fight.Like someone else said its fun to be the underdog.Who were the underdogs in 2004? Days are getting longer you know what that means baseball, bass fishing and cold beer. MERRY CHRISTMAS GUYS AND REMEMBER ONE THING YANKEES SUCK

Just because the Yankee’s are spending so much money every year doesn’t guaranty a pennant. Looked how little <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:place w:st="on"><st1:PlaceName w:st="on">Tampa</st1:PlaceName> <st1:PlaceType w:st="on">Bay</st1:PlaceType></st1:place> paid out last year, less than one quarter of the yank’s salary. And who has bragging rights, not the other 28 higher paid teams.

Theres going to be alot of yankees on the market ( melon head ) giambi, Abrshoe, and there trying to get rid of Johny (RAG ARM) Damon we`ll see what these guys get when they go to another team. Just read that the sox and Youk wont reach an agreement on a contract extension this year. No deal for Youkilis (http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/extras/extra_bases/2008/12/no_deal_for_you.html) also read yankers signed Keven Cash, now we have no knuckle ball catcher. You know they did that just to steal him from the sox. Maybe the big off season move will be signing Varitek, whoopee!!

The Sox still have chances to get another top pitcher or hitter. The Sox have always gone for the lower market players or made really good trades. Who new Hanley Ramirez was going to bring us a 20 game winner in Beckett and a World Series MVP in Lowell. As far as the Yanks go, it all depends on health and if CC Sabathia can pitch better against the Sox since they have owned him in the regular season and the playoffs. Burnett is way overrated. Good strikout pitcher but gets hurt alot and his ERA is always around 4. Is that really worth 18Mil? Teixeira is the only positive thing going for them but we need to see how he does under pressure. Sox need a 4th outfielder, a REAL Shortstop like Orlando Cabera, resign Varitek, and somehow get Jermaine Dye and let him platoon with JD Drew.

The red sox need to make trades, i say we don't trade bucholtz or any other young pitcher i say we part ways with PAPI and Vtek. Ortiz's time is coming closer to an end, he's out of shape, a dh, can't hit a breaking pitch. I know how many games he won single handedly, but it was tough to part ways with fat Mo Vaughn back in the day but now its time to deal PAPI for what he's still worth. Anyone else feeling this--i know i may be alone on this one!!!Smashhead

I think it would of been ok to trade Ortiz if they had gotten Mark T.Then we would of had a more flexable lineup, but we couldnt pull off the signing, so there goes that idea. We still need a catcher and a back up catcher.Maybe Kapler for a # 4 outfielder, hopefully they get someone better than him. Did you notice he stopped playing for a while when they had the big steroid investigations going on, I wonder why?

I think the Sox were thinking of possibly trading Ortiz in a deal for Colorado's Matt Holiday before the Teixeira talks who ended up in Oakland in another trade which would of given us some serious outfield depth and hitting. Problem was that Colorado wanted Buchholz and someone else also in that possible deal which made it go dead. I agree on Papi that its getting close to departure time if he cant stay healthy. We need to get the future ready now that the Yanks will be back in the race. It will be a tough AL East this year if Tampa Bay has a season like last year. Other then that I see the Sox ad Yanks battling for 1st place and the Wild Card.

i agree with the poppi trade if the deal w/texiera went thru....is adam dunn still out there??

Sox have a prospect power hitter they say is a year or two away, probably will be big poppi`s replacement, his name is Lars Anderson. It was funny watching games this year when Ortiz was up with runners on base, I would say to myself, I wish Pedroia was up.Hopefully he bounces back from his injuries and turns back into big pappi instead of big pop out!!!
