View Full Version : August Fishing Plan!!!!

Guys, I think we should put together a plan for August!

Such as this: I have never done good with smallies, so I will not focus on catching one. Honey Bear and Yote may want to take the lead for that fish since they do very well with them!

I'm only using above as a scenerio!

Maybe we can kind of figureout a game plan...

Where are peoples strong points, do you want to try to catch a fish that you've never done good catching or focus on something you do well catching and leave the other fish to a member that does well on that species?

My strong points will be Large Mouth bass, and possibly a shark, since I'm going on a overnight trip in August.

Anyone?

Hey Fishstory, not sure what you are really looking for here, but if you want to know how we are going to be spending our time fishing during August, then I guess I'd have to say that smallies would be my main target species. I'm not much of a largemouth fisherman. Have caught my share of "biguns" though, so don't me wrong, but I prefer open water smallies on light tackle vs. shallow, dense cover & muscle gear for the largemouth. I will not be doing much different in August, than I have during mid-June thru July (unless I hear about something new and interesting - I'm always trying something new). For me, slip-bobber Senko fishing on deep, clear water humps, drop shotting good structures, and fooling with some top water plugs from time to time will fill my day. Push comes to shove, I'll throw them a tube or two (in tandem sometimes). Don't seem to have much a problem getting regular action with these techniques - at least not up at the Quabbin. Will target some walleye and northerns as well....but in the CT river, both above and below the Holyoke damn. There I'd be trolling with a large (8" chartreuse) Believer for northerns - yeah, I know...the heavy artillery, or target casting a 4" -5" Storms Wildeye Shad for walleye (jigged rapidly off the bottom). Decent smallies there too, but I find that better quality (size and healthwise) smallmouth can be had at the Q. Just my opinion, mind you. Is this what you are looking for?

Yote,
Get out there on that bike Tongue1 . The summer will be over sooner than you know it and then snow will be falling and you will wish you had riden your bike. Beerchug

My plan is to fish mornings, real early, unless it's cloudy/raining.

Hey Crazy Joe, I certainly would like to meet up with you sometime on the CT river. I have a new boat as well. Been spending most of the spring and early summer at the Q. Haven't put the boat in the river yet this year though. But I will before too long. I usually launch out of the Chicopee ramp when fishing below the dam. And I like the Hatfield launch when fishing above. I'm reluctant to launch at the Oxbow. So many "crazies" there and the a chance for vandalism. It's a nice launch though. I use to fish the Oxbow quite often. You can troll up some nice northerns there early in the morning. Two of the largest pike I've taken; one out of the Oxbow and one down by the Chic. launch were taken out of the river. My biggest was out of Onota though, back in the early 80's. Lots of great fishing in our neck of the woods - that's for darn sure.

Hey Crazy Joe, make sure you let us know how you do there. Been there in my old rig years ago. The launch is fine. Very difficult area if you don't know where your headed, with many shallow areas tough navigation. Great smallies there though as I recall. Wish you luck! Having some work done inside the house so I won't be getting out at all this weekend :( Looking forward to some interesting postings here to keep my spirits up.
