alright, so this may seem dumb, but a kid i was hunting with the other day shot and cleaned a squirrel, i took the pelt, no tail though! best part gone!, but still, i nailed it and stretched it out on a board and put borax on it, and its coming out nicer then i thought it would, does anyone know how to make a pelt for real? that are like professional, idk?Notsure lol, i was bored so it was a project i decided to invest my time into. That is, time after school and pheasant huntingTongue1

I think what you want to do is now that you have the hide stretched you should salt it down and let stand for a day or two then scrape the residue off and do it over untill you feel that you have all the fat off the hide . Than you apply the Borax and rub it in to soften the hide. I did one over 50 years ago and still have it and it is still soft. Good luck young fella. Neet little project.

Talk to Machine. We cleaned a couple squirrels once to eat them and he kept the pelts and they came out really nice.
